Korbin's information about glaciers

What is a glacier?

Glaciers are really heavy, large bodies of ice.  They move very slowly.  Sometimes glaciers only move 2 cm per year.

Glaciers are usually formed in very cold places like Antarctica and Greenland.  Surprisingly, the bottom layer of glaciers isn't ice, it is a putty-like material.

Did you know?
About 10% of the Earth is covered by glaciers.

There is a glacier in Africa on top of Mount Kilimanjaro.

Global warming might melt some of the glaciers.  Some scientists think increasing temperatures by 39 degrees Fahrenheit would melt all the glaciers.
